Key terms that grasp you
Space elevator
The Space Elevator in the movie shows an imagined way for people to get to the moon.
Exoskeleton
The exoskeletons worn by the soldiers in the movie were not props or costumes. They are actual commercial products donated by ULS Robotics- a Shanghai-based start-up founded in 2018.
Quantum Computers

What is the story about?
In “The Wandering Earth,” humanity faces a future where the Sun is dying and will soon expand to engulf Earth. To avoid destruction, the world unites in an ambitious plan to move the entire planet out of the solar system to a new star system. Using enormous thrusters built around the globe, Earth is slowly pushed away from the Sun on a 2,500-year journey to find a new home. The film explores themes of global cooperation, human ingenuity, and the determination to survive against seemingly impossible odds, showcasing how people from all backgrounds come together to save their planet and ensure a future for humanity.
From an astronomical perspective, “The Wandering Earth” offers a thought-provoking and imaginative look at how humanity might respond to a cosmic threat like the death of our Sun. The film introduces real scientific concepts such as stellar evolution—the natural life cycle of stars, including our Sun, which will eventually expand into a red giant. It reflects on the vast timescales of astronomy and how small and fragile human life is in comparison to the massive forces at play in the universe. Watching this film made me think about the challenges we would face if we were to consider moving to another star system. It brings up important questions: How do we understand our solar system and its future? How do we use knowledge of orbital mechanics, gravitational forces, and propulsion to potentially
